Design & Prepress

Printwest has a full prepress and artwork creation capability in house. You can send yor artwork to us using our Customer FTP Centre or we can take your images and text and create a layout for you.

We always run a proof off for you to approve, this can be posted to you as a hard copy or if time is short we can supply a PDF for you to view.

Litho Printing

Print is still one of the most cost effective communication tools and is frequently under valued as a marketing tool.
Litho printing is the only way to print if you require consistant quality on large runs.

What is Litho Print?
Litho printing is the process that is used to print large quanitities of literature on to paper. The image is transferred photographically from a digital computer file on to a flexible flat printing plate with a light-sensitive coating. The image on the plate is the 'right' way round, and the chemical coating attracts printing ink, but not water. The coating on the part of the plate without the image attracts water but not ink. The plate is assembled on to a roller in the printing machine, and is first coated with water via another roller before coming into contact with the ink roller. The oil based ink stays only on the image part of the plate because of the coating, and the ink is smoothly distributed by means of other, vibrating, rollers. The image (reversed) is then transferred (or 'offset') to a rubber 'blanket' which is on another roller, and this makes contact with the paper coming through the machine. The reversed image on the blanket is then printed the right way round on to the paper. This process is the same for single, two or four colour process. When printing with two or four colour process the artwork is seperated out into different colour plates and each colour is applied to the print run seperately.

We can accept files from the following software applications or any files saved in pdf format:

All linked images should be supplied together with the document file. Graphics should be either vector graphics saved as eps, pdf or ai formats. Images should be saved as CMYK or spot colour format at 300dpi in jpeg, tif or eps formats.

*Please note although we can accept files in Microsoft Publications such as Word and Excel we cannot send Microsoft applications directly to our image setter for film output. We cannot accept files from Microsoft Publisher. Please contact us and we can discuss the best solutions for supplying your files for output.

Unlike litho print we can, in some instances, print directly from your mainstream Microsoft Word or Excel document (not Publisher), plus any files saved in PDF format and all the formats listed in the 'Computer Files for Litho Print' section above.
